Julie Lenko, president of the LHIN central negotiating team, said she was very pleased with the size of the vote. “Throughout the negotiation process, the team was inspired by the enormous solidarity of the members. For example, they gave us a strike mandate of 94 percent. This solidarity prevailed, the right to vote on ratification. There is a ministry-LHIN Accountability Agreement between each LHIN and the ministry. This agreement sets out the obligations of each party in carrying out the mandate of the LHIN as Ontario Crown Agencies, which plan, fund and coordinate health services and provide home and municipal care services. The Minister of Health and Long-Term Care`s mandate letter focuses on shared key priorities and outlines the overall service and benefit expectations for each LHIN each year. Central East LHIN and the Ministry negotiate and sign Accountability Agreements (AAAAs) that define the obligations and responsibilities of the LHIN and the Ministry over a defined period of time.
